by Ruth Lehrer
When I land
my tail is a fish in air
my nose is a berry in earth
It is a shock
I wonder at the water in my mouth
and the sand in my toes
but I stand up
Why here?
I stretch and heave
and now I stand
steady, if not graceful
covering my ignorance
of the savage dinner party
before me.
